About the MOL

Located in the Chemistry Building room 202, the Maker Open Lab (MOL) is an inclusive learning space for the creative exploration of STEM.

Our team, Learning Design & Technology (LDT), serves the College of Arts & Sciences (as well as other schools in partnership) and maintains a number of learning spaces connected by a shared mission.

Faculty interested in using the space for class modules, workshops, or meetings, please see our faculty resources for LDT maker spaces page:

Our Mission is to be Open

We are open to all students, faculty, and staff whether you are STEM-curious or STEM-committed. Novices are welcome as are experts (and everyone in between).

We are open to all genders, sexualities, races, abilities, and interests. The space is a home for intersecting communities. Our norms, practices, and the space itself are designed for universal access.

We are open to ideas. STEM work is inherently creative, and intersects with a diverse set of non-STEM fields. We welcome the myriad methods for exploring STEM.

Calendars

We are open at certain hours of the day!

*If you already have card swipe access, you are

free to enter the space whenever the building

is open.

The MOL is an open learning space…

… to Meet

Need space to run a workshop or work on a project?

Need space to be messy?

Need space to meet with a group and work on a multi-faceted project?

Need access to shared screens, power, and equipment?

Meet in the MOL.

… to Measure

Need access to microscopes?

Need to build or measure something precisely?

Need high performance computers to work with collected data, code, and visualizations?

Come to the MOL to measure and work with measured results.

… to Make

Need to design, prototype, brainstorm, imagine, and / or iterate?

Need tools to build something?

Need to solder, glue, code, or connect?

Make your project in the MOL.

How to get card-swipe access

While we aim to be open as an ideal, the nature of the tools and methods means we can not literally leave our doors open for safety reasons. Therefore, a short (15ish minutes) orientation is required to gain card-swipe access to the space.
